Yes. She actually wore this in public. And, honestly, it’s one of her better ensembles. (There is pink in each level, at least!)
Before you assume it’s just because she’s my third child… I did (and do) allow the older two to dress as mismatched and creatively as they please as well.
Why?
Now, please don’t let this becomes a subject of controversy… because I really do believe in, “To each his (or her) own!” But, this is about why I choose to let my kids dress however they please. Your kids are your own business.
Reason 1: They like it.
Reason 2: They have little control over their world (“Yes, you must go to school”… “Yes, you must eat breakfast”… etc.), so this one little piece gives them some feelings of empowerment.
Reason 3: I get a sense of their style, creativity, and preferences.
Reason 4: I secretly get a kick out of their ensembles.
Yes, I gauge for appropriateness (nothing short or too off-season). Yes, we’ve had this talk…
Me: “Someone may make fun of this outfit. Do you care?”
Them: “No.”
Me: “What will you say?”
Them: “You dress how you want and I will dress how I want. And, I like this outfit.”
So, in closing, I have to admit some feelings of jealousy when other people’s kids are actually matchy-match right down to the hair bow. They just look so pulled together and adorable. But, hey, those are your kids. And these are mine. To each his own!

Do these rules apply when your daughter wants to wear the same clothes over and over…in this case a redskins jersey like 3 times a week….post season!!!!

Every day starts something like this:
Tiffany: “Mommy…..can you help me get dressed?”
Me: “Tiffany you’re 8 now, I know you can pick out your own outfit”
Tiffany: But i need your heeeeeeeeeellllllp….
Me: “OK sure…what about this (insert something super-cute and matchy matchy that I likely spent too much on from a mail order catalog)”
Tiffany: Wrinkled nose…crossed eyes…”I don’t waaaaaaaaant to wear that”
Me: OK…what about this (insert a pair of jeans and a cute long sleeve T)
Tiffany: “That doesn’t match….”
Me: Voice raising…”Tiffany….you asked for my help…I’ve chosen 2 outfits that you don’t like. Now you’re on your own”…leave room and take a wicked long deep breath…
Tiffany: Loud whiny voice…BUT I NEED YOUR HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLP.
And sure enough she comes down 15 mins later in torn jeans, a tank top she likely slept in, and the Redskins jersey. I can’t win!!!!! Maybe I should buy her a couple more
