Ella, age 6, has the amazing ability to play like her nine year old sister, her six year old friends, or her four year old sister, at a moment’s notice. She is our switch hitter.
When I was in graduate school, I did my thesis on birth order. What I found (and what many others had found before me) was that birth order is/was strongly linked to future outcomes related to personal and professional success, happiness, and frequency of leadership roles.
What I didn’t realize until having three kiddos of my own, is that birth order is a really cool thing to study in the context of your own family.
Where were you in your line up? Only, First, Last, Middle? How about your significant other? What about your parents? The way they parented you was likely, in part, related to their own childhood experiences and birth order.
Ella is truly our switch hitter – and I think in the long run, she will be very adaptable, social, and well-adjusted.
What are your thoughts on birth order?
