My husband and I have a running joke that every time my mom comes to visit, she mentions how she “never drank a hot cup of coffee when we were little.” (If you’re reading this Mom, you know we only tease you because we love you.)
I’ve uttered those words a time or two, myself, especially when the girls were so little. It felt like the mornings, and sometimes whole days, were a blur. It was a good morning when you only reheated your coffee once.
I’ve been less frantic in the mornings now that my girls are a little older. Usually, I drink my coffee hot. Sometime I even have 2 cups!
But this morning, just like in the old days, I walked past the microwave at 9:55am only to remember I had popped my cold cup of coffee in there around 7am. It sat there totally abandoned. It was a crazy busy morning with laundry going, one child needing extra math help, one studying for a social studies test, and one wanting to make a pillow out of Duct Tape (that’s a whole other blog piece…).
So, today, a shout out to all moms (and dads) with little, little ones, who are still drinking cold (or microwaved, curdled) coffee. I’ve been there, I admire what you do, I know how exhausted you are, and I don’t want to go back.
